On Saturday, February 25, 50 countries of the world issued a joint statement condemning the veto on the UN resolution on Russia's war against Ukraine.
The statement was published on the website of the US Mission to the UN.
“President Putin decided to violate the sovereignty of Ukraine. President Putin decided to violate international law. President Putin decided to violate the UN charter. President Putin decided to drop bombs on Kyiv to force families to stuff their lives in backpacks and hide in metro stations. President Putin is the aggressor here. There is no middle ground,” US Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield said in a statement.
According to her, Russia abused its power by vetoing a resolution on the war.
“But Russia cannot veto our votes. Russia cannot veto the Ukrainian people. Russia cannot veto its people protesting this war in the streets. Russia cannot veto the UN Charter. Russia cannot and will not We thank the Member States that signed as co-sponsors of this resolution for supporting Ukraine and the UN Charter today. We will bring this issue to the General Assembly, where the Russian veto does not work, and the countries of the world will continue to hold Russia accountable,” she stressed.
