Even two years after the invasion of Ukraine, Russia continues to prepare for a possible conflict with NATO by restructuring and building up its armed forces.
Russia is already preparing for the next war. This is likely a conflict with NATO that could occur within the next ten years.
Foreign Policy writes about this with reference to Estonian intelligence representatives.
The heads of Estonia's foreign and military intelligence said in an interview with the publication that two years after the Russian Federation's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the Kremlin is restructuring and expanding the army, expecting a conflict with NATO within 10 years.
Estonian intelligence officers note that Russia managed to reconfigure the economy on a military footing, so “everything is more or less going according to plan again” for the Russian Federation.
According to Kaupo Rosin, Director General of the Estonian Foreign Intelligence Service, Russian commanders have learned from the mistakes of the early stages of the war and are adapting with uncharacteristic speed.
“It looks like the Russians are basically turning into an organization that learns from the army,” he said.
Rosin added that Russians have always “solved problems” thanks to their mass participation. In his opinion, reforms of the Russian army will likely lead to the creation of a low-tech, Soviet-style force with “great firepower and artillery.”
Estonian intelligence officer believes that war between Russia and NATO is inevitable, but much still needs to be done to contain the Kremlin.
“Many future scenarios depend on our activities in the West… The specific task is to make Ukraine successful in this war, because the future of Europe greatly depends on the outcome of this war,” Rosin said.
Recall that earlier NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that the Alliance does not currently experience a military threat from Russia, since it has involved almost all of its ground forces in an aggressive war against Ukraine.
