Putin's behavior is becoming increasingly erratic and irrational, experts say.
US intelligence has called an assessment of the state of mind of Russian President Vladimir Putin a top priority, trying to figure out how his condition affects the continuation of the war in Ukraine.
This is reported by CNN.
Putin's behavior is becoming increasingly erratic and irrational, experts say. After he embarked on Russia's invasion of Ukraine, senior US officials asked the intelligence services to collect any new information about how the leader of the aggressor country lives and how his thinking was influenced by an unexpectedly single and harsh response from European neighbors.
The former US intelligence community spent a decade deciphering the former KGB officer who has effectively ruled Russia since 1999. However, Putin remains a difficult target, surrounded by the traditional Russian espionage wall and his own paranoia.
According to a copy obtained by CNN, in one of the intelligence reports, Putin's behavior has become “very disturbing and unpredictable” in just the last two days. Allegedly, he was extremely outraged by Western sanctions imposed in response to his attack on Ukraine.
Talk of Putin's inadequacy began after he gave a speech recounting a distorted revisionist story that allegedly justified his meddling in Ukraine. Senator Marco Rubio, a Florida Republican, tweeted that Putin “has always been a killer, but now his problem is different and bigger,” alluding to the mental state. However, the senator did not comment on this issue in detail.
Video footage showing the Russian president sitting dozens of meters away from his senior military advisers or foreign guests during meetings may either underline the image of an isolated leader acting only of his own free will or paranoia.
