Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law extending until January 1, 2023, the deadline for renouncing foreign citizenship or residence permits for civil servants. This was announced on Thursday, December 30, according to RIA Novosti.
The law applies to state and municipal employees, as well as the military. If they do not have time to renounce the citizenship of another state or a residence permit in it before the deadline established by law, then they are subject to dismissal.
According to the previous version of this provision, civil servants had to renounce their foreign citizenship or residence permit before January 1, 2022.
In August, the head of state signed a decree according to which Russian citizens holding a passport of another country can enter the state or municipal service if they cannot renounce their foreign citizenship.
