The chair was taken by Andrey Belousov.
British intelligence assessed the reshuffle in the Russian Ministry of Defense – the dismissal of the minister Sergei Shoigu and the appointment of Andrei Belousov.
This is stated in a new intelligence review from the British Ministry of Defense.
The department recalled that Belousov is an economist without a military background. Before his appointment to the post of Minister of Defense, he was First Deputy Prime Minister, and before that he worked as an assistant to the President of the Russian Federation on economic issues.
British intelligence believes that Belousov was appointed to the Russian Ministry of Defense to ensure greater efficiency in defense spending and closer coordination between defense industries and the needs of the Russian armed forces.
“This could be a very difficult task for Belousov, given the high level of corruption in the Russian Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces,” the report says.
The change of the Russian Defense Minister is unlikely to have a significant immediate impact on the course of the Russian war in Ukraine, British intelligence notes.
“With Putin also announcing that there will be no changes in the appointment of senior General Staff leadership, the current Russian approach to the war is likely to continue,” the report said.
Recall that on May 12, the President-dictator of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin dismissed Sergei Shoigu from the post of Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation. He will become Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation.< /p>
