The Russian president believes that there are many Israelis from the former Soviet Union.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, speaking about the conflict in the Middle East, called Israel an almost Russian-speaking country.
He made this statement during his speech at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
“Israel today is almost a Russian-speaking country, a large number of people from the USSR live there, Moscow takes this into account,” said the Russian president.
It is not entirely clear from this phrase from the Kremlin master whether this signifies a friendly attitude towards Israel because of its “Russian-speaking” nature, or, on the contrary, whether Tel Aviv should be tense at the prospect of assistance to “Russian-speaking Israelis” from Moscow.
At the same time, Putin stated that Russia always supports Iran in its work with “peaceful atoms” and “defends its rights in this area not in words, but in deeds.”
He added that Russia continues to work at the Bushehr nuclear power plant in Iran and has received assurances from Netanyahu and Trump about the safety of its employees there.
Despite the fact that Russia, which has a defense agreement with Iran, did not provide any protection to its strategic partner during the Israeli attacks, Putin called provocateurs those who, against the backdrop of the conflict in the Middle East, say that Russia is an unreliable ally.
Let us recall that earlier Russian President Vladimir Putin came forward with an unexpected initiative to become a mediator in the peaceful settlement of the “Israeli-Iranian conflict.”
Subsequently, US President Donald Trump sharply rejected the Kremlin boss’s offer and advised him to focus on settling the war in Ukraine.
