The share of modern weapons in the Russian army exceeds 71 percent, and in the strategic nuclear forces – 89 percent, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at an expanded meeting of the Defense Ministry collegium. He is quoted by TASS.

The head of state named the work on large-scale modernization of the army and navy as the reason for the increase in the number of modern weapons. “The development of the newest types of weapons proceeded at an active pace, some of them – the Avangard and Dagger complexes – were put on alert,” he added.

Earlier in December, Putin said that Russia is ahead of the United States in modern weapons – the country is improving existing capabilities and introducing new systems. At the same time, he stressed that approximate parity in nuclear weapons – nuclear carriers and the number of warheads – remains with the Americans.

At the end of November, the president announced the appearance in Russia of hypersonic weapons with a maximum speed of Mach 9. “We have now tested it successfully, and from the beginning of the year we will have a new sea-based hypersonic missile in service. Nine swings. The flight time will also be five minutes for those who give orders, ”he said.
