Russian President Vladimir Putin at the opening of the MAKS-2021 International Aviation and Space Salon
Moscow. July 20. INTERFAX.RU – Russian President Vladimir Putin “on the sidelines” of the MAKS-2021 International Aviation and Space Salon in Zhukovsky, near Moscow, examined the light tactical single-engine aircraft LTS “Sukhoi” and other novelties of the domestic aviation industry.
Accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov and Head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov, the President visited a pavilion specially built for the Sukhoi LTS, where the head of the UAC Yuri Slyusar spoke about the new product.
Putin also got acquainted with the modernized version of the Ansat helicopter – Ansat-M, Ka-62, Ka-32A11M, Mi-171AZ helicopters and an unmanned VRT-300 helicopter. He was also shown a business modification of the Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft, the Tu-204-100V aircraft, the Baikal light-engine cargo-passenger aircraft and a model of a flying laboratory based on the Yak-40 – Yak-40LL.
As stated earlier in the state corporation “Rostec”, the presentation of the new lightweight fighter of the 5th generation, created by “Sukhoi”, will become the main premiere of MAKS-2021.
So far, little is known about the new car. Earlier, Rostec published a video showing the contours of the aircraft and its full-face image.
The new fighter will be single-engine. At the moment, all combat aircraft used in Russia are equipped with two engines, while single-engine fighters are widespread in the world – these are the American F-16 Fighting Falcon and F-35 Lightning, the Swedish JAS 39 Gripen and the Chinese J-10.
The experience of creating single-engine aircraft was also in the Soviet Union – the MiG-21 and MiG-23 created in the 1950s-1960s became one of the most massive fighters in history, more than 15 thousand of these aircraft were built in total.
The return to the development of single-engine fighters was announced in December 2020 by the head of Rostec Sergey Chemezov.
