Putin announced 17 criminal cases due to torture in the FSIN system

On the fact of torture in the system of the Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN), 17 criminal cases were initiated, over 10 people were dismissed. This was announced during the annual press conference by Russian President Vladimir Putin, the event is being broadcast by RIA Novosti.

“These are our citizens, and we will work together to improve the situation. When investigating torture in colonies, we need to use the capabilities of human rights defenders,” he said.

Putin also stressed that torture in colonies is a worldwide problem that requires the development of the penitentiary system.

In early October, the founder of the human rights project Gulagu.net, Vladimir Osechkin, said that the organization received and removed from Russia more than 40 gigabytes of FSIN video files, which confirm the systemic nature of torture in Russian colonies and pre-trial detention centers in Irkutsk, Vladimir and Saratov regions. They depicted the rape and abuse of prisoners.
