The head of the Federation Council commission on information policy and interaction with the media, Alexei Pushkov, suggested slowing down the YouTube video service for Russians during the May holidays. This is reported by TASS.

“To warn and threaten all the time, without taking any measures, has a dampening effect,” the member of the upper house of parliament is sure. He explained that such measures are due to the fact that YouTube does not remove prohibited content and blocks content from Russian resources.

Pushkov stressed that the slowdown in traffic for Russian users, carried out by Roskomnadzor, should be temporary, about a week. “This could play a sobering role in relation to the network company,” – said a member of the Federation Council.

According to him, while YouTube does not want to seriously cooperate with Roskomnadzor. The head of the committee lamented that “YouTube is following the vicious path of Twitter.” He pointed out that thousands of videos with child pornography, calls for extremism, suicidal content and other dangerous information can still be watched on YouTube.

Earlier, Roskomnadzor accused the YouTube administration of regularly censoring content posted by Russian media on their accounts, under the pretext of its inconsistency with the age category.

Since March, the agency has been slowing down the work of the social network Twitter for Russian users. The regulator explained the measures by the fact that prohibited content is not completely removed on the pages of the social network. Roskomnadzor later announced that it would block Twitter in Russia on April 16 if the requirements were not met in full.
