The upcoming meeting of the Russia-NATO Council will not lead to any progress. This forecast was given by Senator Alexei Pushkov, the statement was published on his Telegram channel.

“Now they are preparing not to come to an agreement with Russia, but to give it a collective rebuff. Another scenario is not yet visible, ”he said.

Pushkov explained that the United States is the main force of NATO, and the partners in the alliance will try to influence them in favor of their approach, “denying guarantees.” In this regard, Moscow needs to come to clear agreements with Washington, otherwise the negotiations will lead nowhere.

As the senator noted, he is well aware that international organizations with strong positions in the West are the most difficult place to reach agreements in acute crises.

“In the Russia-NATO Council, it will be alone against the 30 member countries of the alliance, and all of them, albeit to varying degrees, are opposed to Russia's position,” he said.

Earlier it was reported that NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg proposed to hold a meeting of the Russia-NATO Council on January 12. Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Alexander Grushko said that the date and format of the meeting are still being worked out.

According to the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov, Moscow expects to receive concrete answers from Washington on its proposals on security guarantees in January 2022. A Kremlin spokesman noted that the United States and its allies are unfriendly towards Russia.
