Tokayev announced that he was taking office as head of the Security Council. Previously, the head of the Security Council was the expresident Nursultan Nazarbayev, who led the country from 1991 to 2019.
Promises to act “tough”
“As the head of state and today the chairman of the Security Council, I intend to act as tough as possible. This is a question of the safety of our citizens, who make numerous requests to me to protect their lives and the lives of their families. This is a question of the security of our state. I am sure that the people will support me,” – said the current president of Kazakhstan.
He assured that he would be in the capital, “no matter what happens.” The President called the current events a “black strip” in the history of the country, but assured that Kazakhstan “will emerge stronger from it.”
He called the protesters “banditry elements”
“There are massive attacks on law enforcement officers. Among them are killed and wounded. Crowds of bandit elements beat and mock servicemen, drive naked streets, rape women, rob shops. The situation threatens the safety of all residents of Almaty. And this cannot be tolerated, “Tokayev said.
The President admitted that except Almaty the situation has worsened in some other regional centers of the country. Therefore, Tokayev called the state of emergency “a necessary measure.” “I would like to draw your attention to the high level of organization of the hooligan elements. This testifies to the carefully thought-out plan of actions of the conspirators, motivated financially – precisely the conspirators,” the head of state believes.
