He was detained on September 9 in the framework of the criminal case initiated by the Prosecutor General's Office of Belarus under Part 3 of Article 361 of the Criminal Code (calls for actions aimed at causing harm to national security), Interfax recalls.

In this case, Kolesnikova and another member of the Presidium of the Coordination Council Maksim Znak were also arrested, and Tikhanovskaya was later put on the interstate wanted list. Salei was one of the participants in the meeting held on October 10 in the KGB pre-trial detention center of Alyaksandr Lukashenka with a number of arrested opposition representatives.
