Yesterday, Bzhania addressed his fans and assured that he was not going to resign, but he abruptly changed his mind.
“President” of the self-proclaimed Republic of Abkhazia Aslan Bzhania said that he was ready to resign post after protesters leave his administration building in Sukhumi.
This was reported by Ekho Kavkaza.
“They say that I left Abkhazia, I am in Abkhazia. We have gathered not to preserve my power, but to preserve statehood. Those in the presidential administration must leave there. After which I will announce elections and resign,” he told his supporters in his native village of Tamysh.
Kremlin puppet Bzhania said, hinting at the events in Ukraine, that “the 2014 scenario” will not happen in Abkhazia will repeat.
At the same time, he specified that he would put forward his candidacy if new “elections” were held.
“I don't want you to get the impression that I'm clinging to power. No, I want to say this: if there are no constitutional forms of development, if we don't comply with the constitution, our state will not withstand it. Therefore: those who seized (the buildings), those who tried to complete the coup d'etat, must vacate the complex of buildings, after which I am ready to call elections, ready to resign and go to the elections. The vice president will govern the country. And let the people say who they support,” Aslan Bzhania concluded.
Protests in Abkhazia began after local authorities wanted to accept an investment agreement between Sukhumi and Moscow. Most Abkhazians consider the agreement a “direct surrender of interests” by Abkhazia to the Russian Federation and Russian oligarchs.
On November 15, a protest broke out against the ratification of the investment agreement with the Russian Federation. The protesters threw eggs at the police, broke down the fence around the parliament and broke into the building itself, clashes with security forces ensued.
Recall that Abkhazia declared “independence” after the war with Georgia in 1993. The self-proclaimed state was not recognized by Georgia or other countries of the world, including Ukraine. Abkhazia and South Ossetia (a sovereign territory of Georgia), like Transnistria (a sovereign part of Moldova) are unrecognized state entities that declare their independence, but in fact are puppets of the Kremlin. However, as we see, even the puppets do not want to blindly carry out the will of Moscow.
