Protests have broken out in Armenia: there are hundreds of detainees, what people demand (photos, video)

Activists oppose territorial concessions to Azerbaijan.

Residents of Armenia protested on May 27 in connection with the transfer of four border villages to Azerbaijan . Protesters are demanding the resignation of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. Police have already detained hundreds of protesters.

In Armenia, people took to rallies against territorial concessions to Azerbaijan, to which the state agreed to transfer four border villages in the Tavu region. Pashinyan previously stated that unilateral concessions are necessary to prevent military aggression. The protest movement is led by the head of the Tavus diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church, Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, whom the opposition nominated as prime minister of Armenia. Activists also demanded the resignation of the Armenian prime minister.

According to News.am, protesters blocked the highway Yerevan-Armavir and the Yerevan-Ashtarak road (the first highway leads to Russia, the second to Iran). Streets in Yerevan are also blocked.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Armenia, as of the morning police detained 226 protesters. As Armenpress reports, most of the detainees are charged under the administrative article of disobedience police. There were also clashes between protesters and law enforcement officers.

Note that on the evening of May 26, protesters held a mass rally in Yerevan, demanding the resignation of Pashinyan. Demonstrators marched to the prime minister’s house, but he was not in Yerevan at that time. There were no clashes in the Armenian capital.

By the way, in mid-April Russia began to withdraw its “peacekeeping forces” from the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh, which returned from under Armenian control to the control of Azerbaijan .
