About 50,000 protesters gathered on the square in front of the parliament.
Protesters in Tbilisi decided to stage a peaceful “parliament siege”. At the same time, some of them are trying to demolish the barriers near the building.
News-Georgia reports about the siege.
The “siege” initiative was proposed by the opposition Strategy Agmashenebeli party. The protesters voted for such a move with their hands up.
“We propose the next step: to peacefully and calmly surround the parliament from both sides … Let's do it peacefully. We call on the police not to confront peaceful protesters,” party leader Giorgi Vashadze said.
At the same time, part of the protesters are trying to demolish the fences around the parliament building and loosen the gates.
The security forces began to use water cannons against the protesters. The special forces are trying to drive the protesters away from the service entrances.
In total, about 50 thousand people gathered on the square in front of the parliament.
Recall that in Georgia, people took to mass protests on March 7 after the parliament adopted a bill on “agents of foreign influence.” The document declares non-governmental organizations and part of the media “agents of foreign influence”, in fact copying an identical Russian law. On the first day of the protests, clashes broke out between the demonstrators and the security forces. The security forces used water cannons and gas, and the protesters used Molotov cocktails. Both sides reported casualties.
The protesters are demanding that the law “on foreign agents” be withdrawn from parliament and that all detainees be released.
