Mourad Aliev
Mourad Aliev still cannot believe his exclusion from the Olympic boxing tournament. The Frenchman turns on the International Sports Court.
Mourad Aliev is still angry. And very much! On Sunday the Frenchman was disqualified in the super heavyweight fight against the Briton Frazer Clarke. The reason: Aliev's head butt in the direction of his opponent and the subsequent protest against the deduction of points.
The result: Aliev completely freaked out. He made wild gestures behind the referee's back, yelling over and over, “Everyone knows I won.” He hit the TV camera and protested with a sit-down strike. None of this was of any use. The next day the International Olympic Committee (IOC) confirmed the exclusion of the 26-year-old. However, the committee named “unsportsmanlike conduct” after the disqualification as the reason.
But Aliev doesn't give up. A few days after the fight, the 26-year-old is – as mentioned – still pissed off. As the International Court of Justice (CAS) reports, Aliev is now taking action against both decisions. He called for “the annulment of the disqualification and the resumption of the fight from the second round with another referee.”
Will the French be successful? Hardly likely. Even if Aliev insists that the referee admitted to having made a wrong decision. However, it cannot be taken back.
