There will never be a confrontation between Russia and Germany, even despite external pressure and geopolitical events, political strategist Marat Bashirov is sure. In a conversation with Lenta.ru, he explained that both states profess the principles of rationality, and any questions are always refracted through the prism of the twentieth century.

On February 15, German President Olaf Scholz held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The head of the parliamentary faction of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD), Rolf Mützenich, said that the dialogue with Russia should be continued.

Relationships with a plus sign

Bashirov noted that it is too early to talk about how relations between Germany and Russia will develop under Scholz, because this was only the first meeting of the leaders of the two countries. However, he stressed that Putin has always had a good understanding of Germany, its problems, the relationship between the elites, and the relationship between the elites and the population.

“To say that Scholz is today the leader of public opinion in Germany would be a big exaggeration,” added the political consultant. – Germany has a coalition government, it is very complex, often with antagonistic views, including on energy issues. We'll have to wait and see how skilled Scholz is in terms of maneuvering.”

The political scientist explained that, on the one hand, the “Greens”, focused on Washington, are pressing on the head of Germany, and on the other hand, the reactionary politicians of the SPD, which leaves Scholz little room for maneuver. At the same time, Bashirov is convinced that there will never be a confrontation between Russia and Germany.

“Both countries profess the principles of rationality. Any question relating to economic relations, cultural, historical is always refracted through the prism of the twentieth century, first of all, we are talking, of course, about the Great Patriotic War. Therefore, no matter who puts pressure on Germany, whether the Anglo-Saxons, another geopolitical situation, German society looks at relations with Russia through a historical retrospective. In general, our relations will always be more about interaction than opposition,” the political strategist concluded.

Negotiations between Putin and Scholz in Moscow took place on February 15. The meeting lasted about three hours, during which the leaders of the two countries discussed economic and energy issues, as well as the situation in Ukraine and the West's response to Russia's proposals for security guarantees.
