The court has removed Diana Soshoache from the presidential race.
In Romania the pro-Russian leader of the far-right party SOS Romania has been removed from participation in the presidential elections, the first round of which will be held on November 24 Diana Soshoake.
Reuters reports this.
The Romanian Constitutional Court yesterday considered appeals filed against six candidates. Five of them were rejected. However, the judges accepted the appeal against Soshoake without explaining their decision.
“This proves that the Americans, Jews and the European Union were planning to falsify the elections in Romania even before they started,” Soshoake said indignantly.
After the court's decision, politicians from across the political spectrum expressed concern that this decision is “an unprecedented threat to democratic values.” Since the nine-member court is appointed for political reasons, many politicians have accused it of meddling.
Note that Romania, which is a member of the EU and NATO, will hold presidential elections in two rounds: November 24 and December 8, with parliamentary elections in between.
Recall that Diana Sosoache has been repeatedly criticized for her ties to Moscow. A year and a half ago, she proposed annexing parts of Ukraine: Northern Bukovina, Hertsa, Budjak (Cahul, Bolgrad, Izmail), historical Maramures and Snake Island. Recently, in her maiden speech in the European Parliament, she accused the EU of “ruining Romania” by aiding Ukraine and called for an end to arms supplies.
As reported, Romania has demanded a decisive NATO response to Russian drones that cross its airspace during Russia's attacks on Ukraine.
