Liana Wen, professor of health policy and management at George Washington University, in an interview with CNN, warned about the uselessness of cloth masks against the omicron strain of coronavirus and advised wearing surgical masks to provide protection against the new pathogen.

“Fabric masks are nothing more than decoration. You can wear a fabric mask over a surgical one, but not just one mask, ”the expert emphasized.

She explained that in the context of the distribution of the omicron, ordinary masks will not help, but a surgical, three-layer, will protect oneself. In large crowds, Wen recommended the use of N95 masks and respirators, which prevent small particles from entering the nasopharynx.
