Professor Wang Lingfa from the American-Singapore Medical University Duke-NU said that the coronavirus can return from humans to animals and then, after a series of mutations, go back to humans as the newest coronavirus Sars-CoV-3. He stated this at the ministerial meeting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) on health issues.
According to the scientist, the new virus threatens the world with a new pandemic. The Straits Times newspaper writes about it.
At the moment, it is believed that the Sars-CoV-2 coronavirus passed to humans from bats common in Asia, through some other animal, most likely a pangolin. Linfa reminded the scientific community that bats have a unique immune system that allows viruses to multiply and mutate in the animal's body, but prevents disease from developing.
– Cases of the transition of the virus from person to animal are also known, during the pandemic they were repeatedly recorded, including when pets from their owners were infected, – the scientist added.
Recall that Russian scientists have already created several vaccines against coronavirus. In Russia, as in a number of other countries, a campaign is underway to vaccinate the population, which will create immunity to the virus.
