Production of the first Skif satellite began in Russia
In the Russian Federation, the production of the first satellite of the space constellation “Skif” has started to provide broadband Internet access, RIA Novosti reports, referring to the data of the Reshetnev Information Satellite Systems (ISS) enterprise.
The new spacecraft will become part of the Sphere multifunctional satellite system.
According to the plan, the Skif satellite constellation will consist of 12 vehicles that will be placed in an orbit with an altitude of 8070 km.
The launch of the first satellite is planned for next fall. It is planned to launch two more vehicles in 2024, six in 2026, and four in 2028.
The creation of the Russian satellite system “Sphere” was announced in 2018. It should become a competitor to foreign systems OneWeb and Starlink.
