Slovak Prime Minister Eduard Heger criticized the Republic's Prosecutor General Maros Zilinka for traveling to Russia on January 11-13 to take part in celebrations marking the 300th anniversary of the Russian prosecutor's office. His words on the radio RTVS broadcast TASS.
According to Heger, Slovakia should not jointly “celebrate” with countries that have problems with respect for fundamental rights and freedoms, escalate military tensions or violate the territorial integrity of other countries. “I cease to understand Zhilinka,” he stated.
In addition, the prime minister condemned Zhilinka's meeting with Russian Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov, who is included in the EU sanctions list, as well as their agreement to cooperate in the fight against cybercrime. In his opinion, Russia poses a threat in cyberspace to European countries.
Earlier, Zhilinka himself responded to criticism for a trip to Russia and wrote that he rejects such a “black and white vision of the world.” According to him, personal contacts and communication with the heads of foreign partner bodies are necessary and useful for achieving the common goal, which is to protect the rule of law on a global scale.
