President of the World Economic Forum in Davos Berg Brand called on the international community to create a Marshall Plan to restore Ukraine.
After World War II, the US invested billions in rebuilding Western Europe. The President of the World Economic Forum calls for the creation of a similar program for Ukraine and wants to involve world business leaders in this.
Spiegel informs about this.
“Even without a peace agreement (Ukraine with Russia. – Ed.), which is currently unlikely, we must begin work on reconstruction, at least in the territories that are under the control of Ukraine,” Brand said. We are talking about infrastructure, electricity, schools, roads and bridges.
“We need a Marshall Plan for Ukraine,” he stressed.
Brende said he wants to call for such a plan at the the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos.
“We will also bring together CEOs for this under the motto “CEOs for Ukraine”. The private sector also has an important role to play in the reconstruction of the country,” said the President of the World Economic Forum .
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky will address the forum participants via video link on Monday. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko and his brother Vladimir are also expected to speak.
The Marshall Plan is a program of economic assistance to European states after the Second World War. Named after then US Secretary of State George Marshall. The program operated from April 1948 to June 1952. Thanks to this assistance, Western Europe was able to restore the war-ravaged economy.
Earlier, Volodymyr Zelensky described how he sees the “Marshall Plan” for Ukraine.
