Tanzanian President John Magufuli died at the age of 62. The reasons for his death have not been officially reported, Bloomberg reports, citing Vice President Samia Suluhu Hassan.
As the Financial Times previously reported, the president was sick with coronavirus and did not get in touch for a long time. According to RIA Novosti, he was first treated in Congo, and then in India. A number of publications, which the agency refers to, confirm the information about the politician's serious illness.
At the same time, a number of major civil servants, such as the Prime Minister of Tanzania, denied the data on the infection of the head of state. In addition, Magufuli stated that there was no COVID-19 in the country and stressed that Tanzania would not purchase vaccines. At the same time, he urged the people to pray and fast for the treatment of diseases.
Tanzania has not reported coronavirus morbidity and mortality data since May 2020, according to the World Health Organization. In total, 509 infections and 21 deaths were detected in the country.
