EU Defence Commissioner calls on countries to create mandatory ammunition stockpiles.

The first EU Defence Commissioner Andrius Kubilius wants to force countries to accumulate a minimum level of ammunition. He claims that this is the best way to prepare the bloc's arms industry for war.

The Financial Times reports this.

Kubilius said that the European Union should prepare for a Russian attack within a few years.

“Why don't we have some criteria called military security to keep a certain amount of artillery shells and some other substances in stock… say, gunpowder [explosives]?” the First Commissioner for Defense noted.

He stressed that he does not intend to repeat NATO's role in security matters.

Kubilius also said that he is striving cooperate with Ukrainian arms manufacturers, because drones and missiles have transformed the modern battlefield.

“They [the Ukrainians] have real experience,” the commissioner noted.

By the way, The Economist reported the day before that the United States' deterrence of Ukraine from striking deep into Russian territory is pushing President Vladimir Putin toward aggression in Europe.
