President of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Luc Tardiff announced the possible dates for the canceled World Youth Hockey Championship (MHM) 2022. His words on Thursday, December 30, are quoted by TASS.
According to him, the tournament may take place in the summer of 2022.
“We are not giving up in any way, we will gather in January to discuss this issue, although it is not so easy to do. We need to delve into the details of the organization of the tournament. We will consider whether the tournament can be held in June or July, ”he said.
Tardiff stressed that this issue is important for young players, for their careers, as well as for fans.
The cancellation of the youth ice hockey world championship due to coronavirus outbreaks in several teams was reported earlier on December 29. Two players in the Russian team became infected, among them was 17-year-old Matvey Michkov. The players were quarantined.
Before the cancellation of the championship, it became known about the cancellation of the match between the national teams of Russia and Slovakia at the MFM. The Russian team was awarded a technical defeat with a score of 0: 1. Teams from the United States and the Czech Republic, where cases of coronavirus were also identified, were also awarded technical injuries.
