Portugal tightens COVID restrictions

The new restrictions will take effect on December 26.

The Portuguese government on Tuesday, December 21, announced the closure of nightclubs and bars throughout the country to contain the COVID-19 pandemic .

It is noted that the new restrictions will come into force on December 26 and will be valid until at least January 9. During the holiday period, citizens will be encouraged to work remotely.

In addition, tourists will be required to demonstrate a negative coronavirus test result for hotel accommodation. On New Year's Eve, the government will also limit open-air gatherings to ten people per group.

At the same time, the average daily number of COVID-19 patients in Portugal currently stands at 433 new cases per million inhabitants. which is lower than in the EU. However, last week that number was 386.
