Popular American social networks Twitter, Facebook and WhatsApp have appealed against the fines received in Russia in the total amount of 36 million rubles. The services were threatened with large sanctions for refusing to localize personal data of Russians. This is reported by the Telegram channel “Moscow Courts of General Jurisdiction”.
“Twitter, Facebook and WhatsApp have appealed against the rulings of the magistrate 422 of the Tagansky district of Moscow, which imposed administrative fines on them totaling 36 million rubles,” the authors of the channel said, referring to the press secretary of the Tagansky District Court.
Previously, all three companies were fined by the Magistrates' Court of the Tagansky District of Moscow for refusing to localize the data of Russian users. Then Twitter was demanded to pay 17 million rubles, and Facebook – 15 million rubles.
In mid-September, the court ordered Facebook to pay another 21 million in Russia. Then the total amount of all fines increased to 90 million rubles. The company was fined on the basis of five administrative protocols under Article 13.41 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation (“Failure to remove information by the owner of an information resource on the Internet if the obligation to remove it is provided for by the legislation of the Russian Federation”).
Together with Facebook, the Russian court also punished Twitter: the company was ordered to pay five million rubles for refusing to remove prohibited content in the country. The total amount of fines for this social network amounted to more than 45 million rubles.
