Pope on the eve of March 8 urged to respect and protect women
Pope Francis urged to respect and protect women, reports TASS.
On the eve of International Women's Day, preaching in the Iraqi city of Bakhdida (Karakosh), which is considered the local center of Christianity, the pontiff thanked all the mothers and women of Iraq, “who continue to give life, despite all the wounds.” He stressed that these brave women need to be protected, given attention and opportunities.
At the same time, Francis mentioned the role of the Mother of God, who “protects from above.”
Recall that the head of the Roman Catholic Church has been on an apostolic visit to Iraq since March 5 for the first time in history. Earlier, he met with the spiritual leader of the Iraqi Shiites prevailing in the country – Supreme Ayatollah Ali al-Sistan. The pontiff also offered up a prayer for all the victims of war and terrorism in the city of Mosul on the square where four churches are located, suffered at the hands of militants of the terrorist organization “Islamic State” (banned in the Russian Federation).
