The pontiff's dead body will not be displayed on a dais or a hearse in St. Peter's Basilica.

Pope Francis has announced his desire to be buried in a simple wooden coffin.

This is reported by Reuters cited a document published on Wednesday, November 20, on the official burial ritual.

The Vatican said Pope Francis will abandon the centuries-old practice of burying the deceased head of the Catholic Church in three coffins, one inside the other, made of cypress wood, lead and oak.

Pope Francis will be buried in a single wooden coffin lined with zinc.

In addition, the Pope's dead body will not be displayed on a dais or a catafalque in St. Peter's Basilica for visitors to see, as was the case with previous popes.

Visitors will be able to give final respects, but Pope Francis' body will remain in an open casket.

Earlier at a summit of Catholic leaders at the Vatican, Pope Francis announced that he would be the first head of the Catholic Church in more than a century to be buried outside the Vatican. Rather than be buried with the 91 other popes in St. Peter's Basilica, Francis said he wanted to be buried in the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome, which is dedicated to the Virgin Mary.

Pope Francis, who turns 88 on December 17, has had occasional health problems in recent years, but has appeared to be in good health in recent months. The sovereign pontiff is currently in a wheelchair due to pain in his knees and back.

Recall that Pope Francis called on young people to have more children to prevent the gradual aging of the population.
