Pope Francis starts a historic trip to war-battered Iraq today, defying security fears and the pandemic to comfort one of the world's oldest and most persecuted Christian communities.

According to the Pope, he will arrive in Iraq as a pilgrim of peace. One of the goals of the visit is to support the Christian population of the country.
Pope Francis will be the first head of the Roman Catholic Church to visit this Middle Eastern country.
