US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo demanded an explanation from Russia about the situation with Alexei Navalny. He stated this in an interview with journalist Ben Shapiro, reports TASS.
In particular, Pompeo was asked to comment on reports of an alleged repeated attempt to poison Navalny. The Secretary of State replied that the American side continues to evaluate information, including what it already knows.
“We (…) were among the first to criticize this incredibly malicious activity and demanded that Russia explain to us exactly how it happened, who did it. We are still waiting for these answers, ”he added.
The fact that the blogger Alexei Navalny was attempted to be “poisoned” twice was previously reported by the British edition, citing anonymous sources in Western intelligence services. The second attempt was allegedly made while Navalny was in a coma.
Navalny became ill on August 20 during a flight from Tomsk to Moscow. In the first two days, he was treated in an Omsk hospital, and after that he was transported to a clinic in Berlin. German experts announced the poisoning of the oppositionist with a substance from the Novichok group. During the examination, Russian doctors did not find traces of poisons in the patient's body.
