In the current conditions, it is almost impossible to repeat the Yalta Conference. So the possibility of starting a new “Yalta” on the 77th anniversary of the multilateral meeting of the USSR, the USA and the UK in 1945 was appreciated by the leader of the Communist Party Gennady Zyuganov. His words, as well as comments by other experts and politicians, are published by News.ru .

In his opinion, an unprecedented sanctions policy is underway against Russia, in which citizens are trying to pit against the fraternal Ukrainian people. In 1945, the United States and Britain were in contact, so holding a series of meetings and making agreed decisions became possible, but now these countries have “declared war” on Russia, Zyuganov believes.

“But we must understand that then Yalta was concluded with a country that could single-handedly kill the entire fascist bloc and its satellites. Today we look different, so the current Anglo—Saxons and NATO members have no special interest in concluding such an agreement,” the Communist Party leader said.

The first deputy head of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, Vladimir Jabarov, agrees with him. According to him, a new “Yalta” is impossible, because in 1945 the conference brought together three leaders of the victorious countries who fought against a common evil, and now there are contradictions between Russia, the United States and Great Britain that are tearing apart relations. Jabarov expressed confidence that now for the repetition of “Yalta” it will be necessary to convene a special international conference under the auspices of the UN.

“It is necessary to prepare carefully for it, to work out measures to combat the confrontation, measures to overcome the global crisis, and most importantly – to develop mechanisms for the settlement of relations between countries. Then this conference will make sense. But for this we need the goodwill of the leading world powers, we need consensus. It is not there yet,” he said.

Maxim Shevchenko, a former member of the Presidential Council on International Relations, stressed that today “Yalta” is impossible, and he would not like its repetition, since its prerequisites were the Second World War, the death of a huge number of people and the reshaping of the world political system. “There is no Yalta outside of this context, it simply cannot exist,” the expert concluded.

At the same time, a member of the HRC Commission on political rights, People’s Artist of Russia Alexander Sokurov believes that a new Yalta is possible. In his opinion, to repeat the event, it is enough for countries to sit down at the negotiating table, calmly and carefully discuss the existing pain points, and then, perhaps, create an expanded Yalta, persuade other states to participate in the creation of neutral zones. In particular, he noted, Russia is interested in the Baltic and Scandinavian countries joining such an alliance. “For this to happen, there is not enough trust. Everyone behaves abruptly, everyone has lost their hearing, everyone does not hear and does not listen to each other a little. This is not a physical problem, it is purposeful actions, unfortunately,” Sokurov said.

Earlier, Sweden and Finland advised NATO not to agree with Russia’s proposals, which would cancel the alliance’s “open door” policy. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg stressed that states want to reserve the right to decide their own future without the intervention of major superpowers. “We do not want to return to the times of the Yalta Conference, when the superpowers decided on the redistribution of spheres of influence without taking into account the opinions of other states,” he said.
