Political Scientist Predicted US Post-Election Split

by alex

Political scientist Lev Sokolschik predicted a “split” in the United States after the presidential elections in the country A researcher at the Center for Comprehensive European and International Studies (CCEMI) at the Higher School of Economics told RIA Novosti.

According to him, no matter the outcome of the vote, the United States will remain a “split” country, since reaching a consensus on a number of key issues is not possible. He noted that “unprecedented polarization” is being observed in the country, and radicalism is becoming the new norm. The expert also stressed that Democrats are deviating further and further “to the left”, and Republicans – “to the right”, which significantly complicates the situation.

Sokolschik added that US President Donald Trump uses populist concepts, which are based on the idea that there is a “noble American people” and some “corrupt elite.” He said that such an ideology only further divides American society.

Earlier it was reported that about a third of Americans who voted in the US presidential elections for the candidate from the Democratic Party, Joe Biden, were guided by protest motives. Only 64 percent of US residents who voted for Biden share his political beliefs, while the rest voted against incumbent President Donald Trump. At the same time, 81 percent of voters who preferred Trump voted for their candidate.

November 3 is general election day in the United States. Citizens elect a president and vice president, and 35 senators, the entire House of Representatives, 13 governors and local government representatives will be elected. The current head of state, Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Joe Biden, who served as vice president under Barack Obama, are fighting for the top post.
