Russian and Ukrainian political scientist Nikolai Zlobin, in an interview with Ukraina.ru, explained why Russia does not express a desire to use forceful methods in resolving the situation around Ukraine. In his opinion, Moscow is well aware that this is not a solution to problems.

He noted that the ideal option for Russia would be a change in the political regime in Ukraine, under which the new authorities turned out to be the complete opposite of the current ones and advocated the development of friendly relations with Moscow. The expert believes that a conventional military operation against Ukraine, which does not involve a change of power in the country, is of no interest to Russia, and therefore is unlikely to happen.

“And the very idea of regime change in Ukraine quite rightly reminds us of what the West has been doing over the past 20 years in different regions of the world and what Russia has categorically rejected. Therefore, any active actions by Russia, in my opinion, require at least a rejection of the Minsk agreements, the idea of the impossibility of changing the regime in other countries by military or paramilitary methods, and the policy of supporting the region in the fight against the central government, ”said Zlobin.

The political scientist also stressed that such actions could only take place if fundamental changes in foreign policy took place in Russia, for which the country is not yet ready. Based on this, it can be assumed that war is hardly possible, he concluded.

Earlier, British Foreign Secretary Elizabeth Truss called on Russia to engage in dialogue on the situation in Ukraine. She warned that in the event of an “invasion”, Russia would face pariah status.
