Emil Chechko, a Polish soldier who fled to Belarus, was sentenced to six months in prison. Such a verdict was passed by the district court of the Polish city of Olsztyn, writes PAP.

He was found guilty of bullying his own mother, which lasted at least a year, from August 2020 to May 2021. The conflict began after Chechko moved to his mother's one-room apartment. Investigators said the soldier regularly abused alcohol, forcing his mother to buy drinks and cigarettes, forbidding her to use the only room in the apartment and hitting her.

Chechko is charged with the episode of May 7, when he, being intoxicated, “hit his mother several times in the face and the back of her head, then squeezed her neck and hit her in the head.” The man was detained by a police squad.

The Olsztyn District Court thus upheld the previous verdict of the Bartoszyce District Court in September this year.

In addition, the Polish Armed Forces accuse Chechko of desertion, for which he faces a military tribunal.

A serviceman of the 16th Pomeranian Mechanized Division of the Polish Armed Forces went over to the Belarusian side on December 16, after which he asked for asylum because of his disagreement with the country's tough policy towards migrants.
