If Russia invades Ukraine, the sanctions that the European Union will impose against it will be tougher than in 2014. This threat was made by Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki at a press conference after the end of the European Council summit in Brussels. He is quoted by RIA Novosti.

“We are constructing a very specific package of specific sanctions. Which should be much more powerful than those introduced after the Russian aggression in 2014,” said the Polish politician. He also noted that restrictions would be introduced only in the event of an allegedly planned Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov commented on the words of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky about security guarantees for Kiev and said that Moscow was not ready to discuss this. Lavrov said that Russia wants to discuss not only Ukrainian security, but the security of the entire region.
