Polish President Andrzej Duda has called for sanctions against Russia in connection with the Alexei Navalny case. His words are quoted by the Financial Times.
The politician noted that it is necessary to increase the sanctions pressure on Russia and limit the possibilities of Gazprom in the European Union (EU). According to him, “then the situation with such matters as the observance of international law, as well as human and political rights in Russia, will begin to move forward,” said Duda.
Earlier, French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian proposed to introduce anti-Russian sanctions in connection with the case of Alexei Navalny. “As for the sanctions, it is necessary to make them really effective. And discussions on this topic will take place tomorrow at the European Council, ”he said, implying a meeting of the foreign ministers of the EU countries, at which the participants will also discuss the arrest of a Russian.
In the afternoon of January 23, uncoordinated actions took place in Moscow, St. Petersburg and other cities of Russia in support of Alexei Navalny, who was arrested on January 18 for repeated violations of the conditions for observing the probationary period in the Yves Rocher case.
