Protest after the assassination of Andre Hill in Columbus, Ohio
Police in Columbus, Ohio decided to immediately fire an officer named Adam Coy who shot an unarmed black man. Writes about this NBC News.
“I witnessed this dangerous misconduct while watching the footage from [the policeman's] body camera. I have seen everything I need to see in order to conclude that Officer Koy must be fired immediately. This violation cost the life of an innocent person, ”said Police Chief Thomas Kinlan.
The victim of the incident, which occurred three days earlier, was a 47-year-old black man, Andre Hill. The incident happened at night, when the latter was standing at the garage of the house of his friends, to whom he came to visit. Officer Adam Coy and his partner saw the African American and demanded him to stop, probably mistaking him for a robber. Then the policeman aimed a flashlight at Hill – he was clutching something in his right hand. A black man approached the police and Coy fired. Later it turned out that the man had no weapons.
Hill's assassination caused a wide outcry, and large protests began in the city. This is the second similar case in the city since the beginning of the month: before that, an African American, Casey Goodson, was shot dead on the doorstep of his house.
