Poles protesting against the ban on abortion due to fetal defects were brutally dispersed by the police. TASS reports.
The rallies were held near the building of the ruling Law and Justice party, and then – near the house of its leader Jaroslaw Kaczynski. Law enforcement officers used physical force and gas, 15 people were detained. The representative of the Polish police Sylvester Marczak, in turn, noted that the authorities “dealt with a large wave of aggression, they threw stones at the policemen.”
After that, Poland decided to ban more than five people from gathering due to the worsening situation with the coronavirus.
On the eve of the Constitutional Tribunal of Poland called abortions made due to fetal developmental defects unconstitutional. It is noted that such a resolution may actually lead to a partial ban on termination of pregnancy – if it is supported in parliament. In this case, abortion will be allowed only because of rape, incest, or a threat to the health and life of the woman.
Recently, conservative values have played an increasing role in the public life of Poland. This is attributed to the coming to power of the conservative Law and Justice Party.
In 2016, the Polish authorities first conceived of completely banning abortions. Then, mass demonstrations of women took place in the country, the action was called “Black protest” – the participants, at the call of the organizers, dressed in all black.
