Poland will still not shoot down Russian missiles over Ukraine without a NATO decision, despite the agreement with Zelensky.
Poland does not will shoot down Russian missiles flying in its direction in the skies over Ukraine, without coordination with all NATO members.
This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense of Poland Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysh, Polish Radio reports.
According to him, Poland is not will comply with Kyiv’s demand to shoot down Russian missiles flying towards western Ukraine without a decision from the entire Alliance.
The minister added that NATO does not have such agreement and pointed to the position of the White House, where they stated that they do not want an escalation of the conflict.
“Of course, there are other procedures for missiles on Polish territory. Then this is our decision,” says Kosiniak-Kamysh.
Previously, the Office of the President reported that the new agreement between Ukraine and Poland, concluded on July 8 this year during President Zelensky’s visit to Warsaw, provides for the possibility of intercepting Russian missiles and drones by Polish forces in the skies over Ukraine.
Also, the agreement on security guarantees involves the creation of a volunteer legion in Poland with the possible participation of foreigners. In addition, Poland pledged to “encourage” Ukrainians to return home to serve in the army.
Recall that during the shelling on the coast of 2024, a Russian missile again flew into Polish airspace. However, Warsaw cynically stated that they decided not to shoot down the missile because it had to return to Ukraine anyway.
