The Polish government is discussing the issue of extending residence permits for Ukrainian men.
Poland may stop issuing residence permits to Ukrainian men aged 18 to 60 years, if Ukraine makes such a request.
This was announced by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland Andrzej Szejna, writes Polish Radio.
“We definitely won’t protect those who are trying to escape,” he said.
The Deputy Foreign Minister of Poland assured that in this case he would ask Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski not to renew these permits. “There is no official position on this matter, because there was no communication between the Ukrainian government and the Polish government,” Sheina clarified.
In turn, the Minister of Defense and Deputy Prime Minister of Poland Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamisz believes that the decision on the return of men of military age to Ukraine should be taken at the EU level.< /strong>
“If Ukraine asks for support, we will provide it,” assured Kosinyak Kamysh.
He noted that “negotiations between Kiev and Brussels on this topic continue.” “Decisions at the European level will ensure the full effectiveness of this action, and we are interested in such solutions,” said the Deputy Prime Minister.
Recall that Polish Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysh said on April 24 that his country is ready to help Ukraine return men of military age.
Commenting on this, Lithuanian Defense Minister Laurynas Kasciunas said that Lithuania promises to follow the example of Poland regarding mobilized Ukrainians living abroad.
However, later Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski clarified that Warsaw’s assistance in transferring military-age men to Ukraine is an ethically questionable step, adding that Kyiv itself should take the initiative in this matter.
In turn, the Ambassador of Ukraine to Poland Vasily Zvarych said that Ukraine did not turn to Poland for help with the return of the men.
