Poland is Ukraine's most likely ally in the event of a war with Russia. Salih Yilmaz, professor at Yildirim Beyazit University in Ankara, said this in a commentary to Lente.ru.
The political scientist doubted that NATO would make a decision to take part in a united front in the armed conflict between Russia and Ukraine. He added that among the members of the alliance, only the United States, Britain, France and Turkey have full-fledged armies, while the troops of the rest are “rather ineffective.”
At the same time, Washington and London prefer training and education of Ukrainian military personnel, rather than sending their own contingent to the country. Yilmaz stressed that Turkey also does not intend to enter into conflict with Russia. “There is a high probability that Ukraine and Poland will join forces [against Russia],” the specialist said.
Earlier, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said that Ankara stands for a constructive dialogue between Russia and NATO on the situation around Ukraine. The diplomat stressed that the Turkish side does not even want to talk about the possibility of a war between the sides. He assessed the situation as tense and hoped that negotiations would help resolve it.
