The Polish Sejm adopted a resolution demanding compensation for damages, inflicted by Germany during the Second World War, and expresses claims to Russia as the legal successor of the Soviet Union.
On Wednesday, September 14, the Polish Sejm adopted a resolution to compensate Poland for the damage caused by Germany during World War II. The document says that the Polish state has never abandoned its claims against the German state and that the Sejm calls on the German government to take “political, historical, legal and financial responsibility” for all the consequences caused by the outbreak of World War II.

418 deputies voted for the corresponding resolution, four voted against, 15 members of parliament abstained. Before the vote, an amendment was adopted to replace the word “reparations” with “compensation” in the text of the resolution.
During the work in the commission, a provision was also added to the draft resolution that Poland did not receive appropriate financial compensation and war reparations for the damage caused during the Second World War as a result of the aggression of the USSR.
“German aggression, the occupation of Poland by Germany and the systemic genocide caused great harm, suffering, as well as material and non-material losses. The cruelty of the German occupation against people took on various forms: enslavement, forced labor, robbery, mutilation, rape and murder of children, men and women – citizens of the Republic of Poland,” the resolution says.
The document emphasizes that the Republic of Poland has never received compensation for personal and material damage caused by the German state, and has never received compensation for the huge damage caused to Polish citizens.
Also, the Sejm of the Republic of Poland in this resolution states that “Poland has not yet received proper financial compensation and compensation for material and non-material losses suffered by the Polish state during World War II as a result of the aggression of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.” As noted, “these losses require identification and presentation of the necessary assessment, which will be the basis for taking appropriate measures against the Russian Federation.”
Polish Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau, after the adoption of this resolution, announced that at the beginning of next month a corresponding note will be sent to the German government through diplomatic channels.
Recall that Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said earlier that Warsaw would pursue its demands for compensation from Germany for Nazi crimes during World War II, because this demand “the souls of dead ancestors”.
