Poland is taking a decisive step towards full energy independence from the aggressor country. The head of the Polish government, Donald Tusk, made a statement.
The Polish energy sector does not rely on Russian energy sources, especially during a full-scale war waged by Russia. This was stated by the head of the Polish government Donald Tusk , commenting on the decision of the national oil refinery Orlen to completely stop purchasing Russian oil for its Czech refinery from June 30.
Ukrinform reports this.
According to Tusk, relying on Russian supplies in the context of Russian aggression would be a “grave sin.” He emphasized that thanks to the Orlen decision, Warsaw is consistently implementing a plan to reduce Poland's and Europe's energy dependence on external supplies, especially from aggressor countries such as Russia.
“I don’t have to explain to anyone today that during a war, where Russia is the main negative actor, counting on Polish energy being based on supplies from Russia would be a grave sin,” the Polish prime minister noted.
Tusk added that achieving energy independence from Russia required significant efforts from Warsaw, but now Poland feels much more secure in this matter.
As a reminder, the European Union's executive body intends to propose a new package of sanctions aimed at Moscow's “shadow” fleet of oil tankers in an attempt to increase pressure on Russia over its war in Ukraine.
The sanctions proposed by the European Commission would target 60 individuals and entities and would also include restrictions on about 150 vessels, according to officials familiar with the matter.
