Warsaw needs to protect the infrastructure and grouping of its own troops.
Poland refuses to transfer to Ukraine the American Patriot system located on the territory of the country. Moving the entire battery is dangerous.
The head of the Presidential Bureau of National Security of Poland, Jacek Severa, spoke about this on ZET radio,
For his part, the head of the Polish National Security Bureau, Jacek Sievera, said that the American Patriot installations stationed in Poland should not be transferred to Ukraine.
According to him, the American Patriot system “definitely cannot” be transferred from Poland to Ukraine. Severa explained this for several reasons.
“We are the country through which most military aid flows, where in the last two years there have been three cruise missile airspace violations, costing the lives of two citizens, a country that is not only key to supplying Ukraine, but and for the entire system of deterrence and preparation of possible defense on the eastern flank,” he said.
Severa noted that he does not know the details of the US transfer of Patriot to Ukraine. That is why he asked to talk about this matter with his American colleague, National Security Advisor to the President of the United States Jake Sullivan.
Jacek Severa says that “the deployment of troops begins first of all with the protection of one’s own formations, that is, with air defense.” According to him, it is necessary to protect the infrastructure and grouping of one’s own troops.
“Every Patriot battery and launcher on the territory of the Republic of Poland tightens security,” emphasized the head of the National Security Bureau.
Patriot batteries can be split up or moved to other locations, he said. “But moving the entire battery is very dangerous,” –
Meanwhile, the Deputy Minister of National Defense of Poland, Cezary Tomczyk, reported on the social network X (Twitter) that the American battery will be replaced by a battery from another part of the world.
“Poland did not agree to the transfer of the Polish battery. Polish patriots are defending Polish skies and this will not change,” wrote Tomczyk.
We note that The New York Times published information that the United States is allegedly thinking of sending the American Patriot system stationed in Poland to Ukraine. By the way, she defends the logistics hub in Rzeszow. Through it, a significant portion of military aid comes to Ukraine. The NYT publication did not specify whether we are talking about the transfer of the entire battery – eight launchers with radars and other equipment – or only about its individual elements.
Recall that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that Ukraine will soon receive additional air defense systems from Germany. We are talking about the third Patriot air defense system, IRIS-T installations, Gepard anti-aircraft self-propelled installations, as well as missiles and ammunition.
