by alex

The Armed Forces of Ukraine will soon receive from Poland a man-portable anti-aircraft missile system (MANPADS) Piorun, which means lightning.

This is reported by the Center for Counteracting Disinformation under the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.

This complex is designed to combat low-altitude targets: aircraft, helicopters and drones.

Piorun MANPADS is a joint development of the Military -Technological University, as well as CRW Telesystem-Mesko sp. and Mesko S.A.

It is noted that the new launcher is a deep modernization of the Grom MANPADS, which was developed on the basis of the Soviet Igla MANPADS.

— The uniqueness of the new missiles is that they are practically insensitive to obstacles used by planes and helicopters, — noted in the Center for Counteracting Disinformation.

In the Piorun portable anti-aircraft missile system, the efficiency of the homing head was increased, and a proximity fuse was installed. The complex is adapted to work at night.
