Poland demands EU to renew permits restricting transit for Ukrainian truck drivers – Morawiecki

The permits were revoked following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Poland will demand that the European Union renew permits that restrict transit for Ukrainian truck drivers.

This was stated by Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, writes Reuters.

Polish drivers have been blocking the crossings since November 6, demanding that the EU reinstate a system under which Ukrainian companies need permits to operate in the bloc and European truckers need permits to enter Ukraine. The permits themselves were canceled after Russia invaded Ukraine.

“We will very strongly and unequivocally demand the renewal of transport permits for Ukrainian drivers,” Morawiecki said.

Polish drivers were joined by Polish farmers, and then by Slovak truckers. They complain that their Ukrainian counterparts offer cheaper prices for their services and also transport goods within the EU, not just between the bloc and Ukraine.

Let us remind you that one of the categories of trucks has begun to be allowed through at the border with Poland.
