Poland is in favor of accelerated admission of Ukraine to the European Union (EU) and providing Kiev with access to European funds. This was stated by the President of Poland Andrzej Duda in his Twitter account.
“Poland supports the accelerated path of Ukraine's accession to the European Union. Candidate status must be granted immediately, and membership negotiations must begin immediately thereafter. Ukraine should also gain access to EU recovery funds. Ukraine deserved it,” the politician wrote.
Earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that the moment had come to close the long-standing discussion once and for all and decide on Ukraine's membership in the EU. Zelensky noted that he had discussed further assistance to Ukraine with the head of the European Council, Charles Michel.
On February 26, the head of the International Monetary Fund, Kristalina Georgieva, spoke about the possible support of Kyiv. She stated that the conflict in Ukraine is having a serious economic impact on the country and will worsen as it continues. Now the IMF is discussing the possibility of helping Kiev.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that he had decided to conduct a special military operation to protect Donbass. He also turned to outside forces that might try to pose a threat to Russia. According to him, Moscow's response will be immediate.
Soon, protests began in the capitals of European cities against the Russian operation. The leaders of the European Union and NATO have imposed sanctions against Russia and part of its leadership.
